KARGIL, Apr 29: The Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan today met General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Mountain Division, Maj Gen Manoj Pande, and discussed the issue of evacuation of Indian Army from Khurbathang Plateau and other civil lines areas in Kargil district during a meeting held at Council Secretariat here.
The meeting was also attended by all the Executive Councilors.
With the increase in population day by day, there is no scope of expansion of Kargil town in the present location and to address these problem the LAHDC Kargil and people of Kargil desire to shift Kargil town to lower Khurbathang Plateau which is under the possession of Indian Army.
Various rounds of talks have taken place in this connection with the Army authorities and an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been already signed between LAHDC Kargil and Indian Army.
During the meeting many other important issues as well as programmes pertaining for youth development like Skill Development, Education, Adventure Sports were also discussed.
The GOC also agreed to give full support and collaboration for promotion of traditional sports as well as holding of five-day National Integration camp for 100 youths from eight States in the coming summer.
The issue of lower Khurbathang Plateau was also raised by CEC and MLC Kargil, Haji Anayat Ali during Legislative Council session.
