SRINAGAR, Apr 29: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today criticised the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti for her comment on slapping Public Safety Act (PSA) on hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) leader Masrat Alam Bhat.
Bhat was booked under PSA after a case under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) was registered in Humhama police station in central Kashmir for raising pro Pakistan and freedom slogans besides hoisting Pakistan flags at a rally organized to receive Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani from New Delhi on April 15.
In a tweet, Working President of the main Opposition National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah said, Where is Mehbooba Mufti? The person I’m watching on @HeadlinesToday is certainly not the person I knew for the last six years.
Suddenly there are “red lines” that are being drawn in the sand. How people change in office, he tweeted. Ms Mehbooba in an interview had justified the detention of Masrat under PSA saying he had crossed the red line. She had further said that actions supporting Lashkar-e-Toiba terror group chief Hafeez Sayeed would have vitiated the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, as an Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly before 2014 elections, She had termed PSA as a “black spot” on democracy.
The PDP President had said that the decision was taken keeping in mind the forthcoming tourism season. She had said that Kashmir is on the road of economic recovery. People like Masrat Alam are danger to that recovery.
