Edu Deptt to rediscover contribution of J&K’s legendary literary personalities: Naeem

SRINAGAR, May 1: The Education Department has decided to rediscover and bring to light the great contribution of Jammu and Kashmir’s legendary literary personalities in the State’s treasured cultural milieu.
This was announced by the Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar at a meeting convened by him at the regional office of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) here today.
Besides, Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Regional Head ICCR and Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shah Faesal representatives of Cultural Academy, Radio Kashmir, Doordarshan Srinagar, Information Department, Education Department and Adbi Markaz Kamraz were present on the occasion.
It was decided in the meeting that to begin with, the Education Department would observe Nadim Day to highlight the remarkable contribution of great eulogist and devotional poet of Bandipora, Abdul Ahad Nadim (1840-1911), whose multifaceted poetry is cherished by the people in nook and corner of Kashmir.
Mr Akhtar called for constituting a committee with representatives from ICCR, Cultural Academy, Information Department, Education Department, Doordarshan Srinagar, Radio Kashmir and other concerned departments to chalk out the programme for bringing to the fore the contribution of Nadim to the Kashmiri eulogy. He said the committee would work under the overall guidance of DC Bandipora, who would coordinate the preparations for observing the Nadim Day, in the first week of August.
He said the Nadim Memorial Higher Secondary School Kaloosa, Bandipora and various cultural forums of district Bandipora would be also involved in the preparations.
It was also announced that the Cultural Academy would publish a special issue of the compilation of poetry of Nadim.
The Minister said that in the next step the Education Department would organize similar programs to highlight the contribution of another great literary personality of Kashmir Dina Nath Nadim.
He also said that the Cultural Wing of the Directorate of Education would be made vibrant to play an active role in this endeavor.
