JAMMU, May 3: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh today dedicated “model” village Sangwali in Hiranagar Assembly Constituency to the martyrs from Indian military and paramilitary forces.
During a visit to the village today, he said, the village has accomplished almost all the parameters required to be designated as a model village and very soon, it will become the first designated model village of Jammu & Kashmir State under the “Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana”.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, he has so far adopted four villages and after Sangwali, the other three villages adopted by him included Humbal-Doda,Bhattan-Kishtwar and flood affected Saddal-Udhampur. The reason for him to opt for Sangwali as first village to be developed by him was that it is a land which has produced generations of patriots who have left behind them a long history of martyrdom for the nation. The young martyr Khajuria also belongs to this village and Dr. Jitendra Singh has requested the local MLA and the Deputy Commissioner to moot a proposal to name the link road to the village as “Shaheed Khajuria Marg”, he added.
The peculiarity of the village, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, is that the majority of its population is comprised of ex-servicemen and more than 60% of them belong to the Dalit community.
Amid applause from enthusiastic crowd, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, it was a matter of pride that the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana” announced by Narendra Modi has achieved 100% targets in the village and even though there is a provision in the scheme to open bank accounts with zero balance, the people of the village have, out of their self-esteem and self-respect, come forward to deposit money as a result of which, an amount of Rs.14,36,543/- has been deposited despite a zero balance account scheme.
On the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh announced the setting up of a water tube well in the village at a cost of Rs.1.7 cr and said, there is no provision for it in the Jan Dhan Yojana, but he will work out and arrange funds from different sources.
Another major announcement made by him was opening of a “Skill Development Centre” for housewives and youth, and organizing regular multi-specialty health camps during which he would himself also be available to provide consultation to patients of diabetes.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also announced setting up of toilets for women on the same pattern as he had provided 100 such toilets along the border areas falling in his constituency. Responding to the demand for upgradation of the existing Middle school, he said, the demand will be taken up with the concerned authorities, but in the meanwhile from his own resources, he would arrange for computers for students.
MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Kumar, Ex-MLA Durga Dass, DC Samba Sheetal Nanda and SSP Samba Joginder Singh, District President BJP Vijay Sharma & Senior leader Rashpal Verma were also present on the occasion.
