DRC approves Rs 1700 cr power sector projects

SRINAGAR, May 6: The Distribution Reforms Committee (DRC) headed by Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey, today approved DPRs of Rs 450 crore under the Integrated Power Distribution Scheme (IPDS) for 86 towns and DPRs of Rs 1249.68 crore under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DUGJY) for rural areas of the State.
“These projects will strengthen power distribution infrastructure in both the towns and villages of the State and enable us to provide better power supply to the consumers,” Chief Secretary said.
The DPRs have been prepared by the State Power Development Department after detailed field survey and identifying critical infrastructural gaps in the distribution network.
The projects envisage strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution networks to improve reliability and quality of power supply, metering of distribution transformers/feeders and consumers in both towns and villages to improve accounting and auditing of energy at all levels in the distribution system besides improving rural electrification.
Principal Secretary, Planning and Development, B R Sharma, Principal Secretary, Forests, R K Gupta, Principal Secretary PDD, Sundeep Nayak, Administrative Secretaries of Rural Development Department, Revenue, S&T, Chief Engineers and other officers attended the meeting.
