JAMMU, May 7: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Tribal Affairs Ch. Zulfkar Ali today asked the CA&PDD authorities to chalk out an effective strategy to streamline the Public Distribution System across the State.
The Minister said this during his visit to various procurement centres/depots of CA&PDD in Jammu to take a detailed review of the stock and supply position of food items under PDS including Rice, Sugar, Wheat and Atta in Jammu region.
Director CA&PD, G.S. Chib, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Director CA&PD, Arun Kotwal besides Assistant Directors and other senior offices of the concerned departments accompanied the Minister.
While reviewing the status of availability, quality and supply of rations during his visit to Central Stores Procurement Depot Bikram Chowk, CA&PDD Gowdown Chatha, the Minister directed Director CA&PDD to personally check the supply of the rations received from Food Corporation of India (FCI) on routine basis. He also directed for computerization of all records and installation of digital weighing machines to bring transparency in system.
Stressing on effective enforcement of laws, the Minister asked the CA&PDD and Legal Metrology authorities to workout modalities for effectively curbing the practice of overcharging, adulteration besides putting in place an effective monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability in Public Distribution System.
Reviewing the month-wise statistical data of delivery of food-grains, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the poor performance of the concerned functionaries in timely distribution of essentials and directed them to disburse the same as per the need so that the people are not deprived of essential commodities.
The Minister also visited Pahalwan’s Food Point at Gole Market Gandhi Nagar and asked the management to maintain quality, quantity of the packaged eatables, display MRP besides proper hygiene in the establishment.
