EDLWU demands probe into electrocution incident

JAMMU, May 7: All J&K Electric Department Linemen and Workers’ Union (EDLWU) today held a meeting under the chairmanship of its vice-president Ashiq Husssain and demanded a probe into a mishap in which a lineman suffered electric shock while working on electric pole.
The meeting which was attended by the office bearers and members of the union expressed grave concern over the slackness of the authorities in streamlining the working of linemen, as a lineman namely Om Parkash Sharma son of Shiv Ram Sharma, posted at RE Sub-Division No 2, Udhampur, received severe electric shock while working on electric pole and landed in hospital.
The participants appealed the higher authorities of the department as well as Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, to conduct in-depth investigation into the matter to find out the reasons and circumstances under which the poor employee suffered electric shock and book the defaulters.
The meeting demanded that a departmental person be deployed for attending the poor employee in the hospital besides bearing expenses of his treatment.
Girdhari Lal, Surinder Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Prem Chand, Paras Ram, Tara Chand and many others attended the meeting.
