People block NH over power, water crisis

KATHUA, May 8: Irate people of Pali Morh and surrounding areas today staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for one hour in protest against the power crisis and water scarcity in the area.
The irate people including men, women and children shouting slogans against the Government squatted on the road and blocked the NH for one hour in protest against the power and water crisis in the area.
The protestors alleged that the Government has totally failed to solve the problems of the people despite bringing the matter in the notice of authorities several times. They said the power transformer is breakdown for last five days and the authorities have failed to replace the same with the result the entire area has plunged into darkness. Moreover the people are facing water scarcity for last 12 days, they added.
They said that the ministers failed to take the cognizance of the matter and solve the problem. The people warned to intensify agitation in case the problem was not solved.
Later the blockade of NH was lifted after the intervention of senior police and PHE officers. They assured the people that the water supply will be restored soon and till that time tanker supply will be started. The officers also assured the agitating people that power transformer will be installed by tomorrow.
