JAMMU, May 9: In order to provide better services to the people, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh convened a high level meeting here today to review the functioning of various departments.
The meeting was attended by MLA West, Sat Sharma, MLA East, Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu, VC JDA Mubarak Singh, Chief Engineer PDD, Chief Engineer PHE, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B), Chief Engineer, ERA and other senior officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh directed   the officers to ensure transparency in service delivery and said that it is the endeavour of the Government to provide better basic facilities to the people. He said a well conceived programme has been devised to address all issues in a phased manner.
A thorough review of the performance of PDD, PHE, Irrigation, PWD, Municipality and all other important departments was also taken during the meeting. Deputy Chief Minister impressed upon the officers to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply and sanitation so that people do not face inconvenience in summer.
He emphasized on regular monitoring of the development works besides use of quality material. He said no stone would be left unturned in redressing the grievances of the people. He directed the concerned officers for effective running of control room/complaint cell with dedicated 24×7 phone lines to redress the public grievances especially related to PHE and PDD in time bound manner. He said that   government has accorded high priority to health sector, PDD, PHE and road connectivity.
Referring to the availability of potable drinking water, he directed the concerned officers to ensure supply of potable drinking water to the people during the summer season. He also directed the concerned to ensure repairs of PHE pipelines on priority and asked to provide water through tankers to cope up with the deficiency of water wherever required.
He also instructed the concerned PDD officers for setting up of inspection teams for conducting inspections to identify illegal connections and take action in this regard so that transformer damages can be minimized due to overloading.
Regarding cleanliness, Municipal authorities were directed to conduct special drives and take up repairs of street lights wherever necessary.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister also convened a meeting with the officers of civil administration and army to discuss various issues like expansion of airport & Jammu University Campus, repairing of Basantar Bridge, Pargwal to Jourian bridge, conversion of Dhar Manpur road to national highway.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary/Principal Secretary Planning, B R Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal, GOC Nagrota and senior Army officers.
