JAMMU, May 9: A day after eliminating top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander on the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Poonch district, Army and police today destroyed two hideouts of the militants and recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition from two separate places in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Official sources said the troops destroyed two hideouts of the militants at Kakora forests at Hanjawali in Manjakote area of Rajouri district and Ghani area in Lower Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.
On specific information, troops of Rashtriya Rifles battalion based at Hanjawali under Romeo Force carried out joint search operation local police in Kakora forests of Manjakote area in Rajouri district and recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition. However, no arrests were made from the hideout. Reportedly, the militants were not present in the area but had dumped the consignment of arms and ammunition there to pick it up at an opportune time to carry out terror attacks.
Recoveries made from the hideout included one AK-47 rifle, 212 AK rounds, eight AK magazines, 214 Pika rounds, one Global Positioning System (GPS), three binoculars, four radio sets, one Thoraya set and other war like stores.
This was one of the major recoveries made from Kakora forests in Manjakote sector.
With the recovery, the troops have thwarted major plot hatched by the terrorists to carry out strikes in the border district.
Army and police conducted searches in Kakora forests but there were no trace of militants, sources said, adding that the militants might have left the hideout after dumping consignment of arms and ammunition.
Meanwhile, troops of Rashtriya Rifles based at Lower Krishna Ghati in Poonch district under Romeo Force busted another hideout of the militants in joint operation with police and recovered consignment of arms and ammunition.
Sources said a team comprising one officer, one Junior Commissioner Officer and 24 jawans of Army and four jawans of Special Operation Group (SOG) of police carried out joint search operation in Ghani area of Lower Krishna Ghati in Poonch district and made the recoveries.
The seizure included 320 ammunition rounds of AK-47 and Pika guns, one AK magazine, one Global Positioning System, three Chinese grenades, 11 pencil cells, 10 meters fuse wire and 20 meters brass wire.
Here also, Army and police carried out searches for the militants but no arrests were made.
Huge recoveries of arms, ammunition and explosive devices by Army and police came just a day after the troops gunned down a LeT commander and recovered large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives from him. The militant commander was trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory. After he was killed, his colleagues were reported to have retreated to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
