JAMMU, May 10: In a State Council meeting of J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides today, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar was unanimously elected as “President of the Social Voluntary Movement”,
The Minister alongwith other elected office-bearers namely Vice Presidents and State Chief Commissioner, took the formal oath and assured that they will work with dedication and devotion towards strengthening and streamlining this global movement. Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected President Naeem Akhtar said that informal education is as important as formal education in building healthy society by institutionalizing the tremendous capacity of young Scouts & Guides. He said the movement plays commendable role to harness and translate energy of scouts and guides into action for socially accepted objectives.
Thanking the organizers for giving him the opportunity to serve the society by electing President of the social body, which simply is not an organization only but a movement, the Minister impressed upon the volunteers of the organization to put in their best to keep the torch of this movement afloat so that its message reaches every corner of the State.
The Minister spoke in length about the measures to be taken for improving the education system in the State. He said that the Government’s agenda is to provide quality education to the students and various reforms are in pipeline in this regard.
Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education, Roma Wani, Secretary General, Indian Red Cross Society, and Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director Tourism, Kashmir have been elected Vice Presidents of the Association; while Nazir Ahmed Khan, will hold the post of State Chief Commissioner.
Naveen Aggarwal, Director General Youth Services & Sports, Simarandeep Singh, Director School Education, Jammu and Showkat Ahmad Beigh, Director School Education, Kashmir will be the Ex-Officio Vice-Presidents by virtue of the posts held by them.
Earlier, I D Soni State Commissioner (S) Returning Officer highlighted the achievements of Scouts/Guides who bought deference and benedictions to State by becoming recipients of National Award.
State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts & Guides, N. A. Khan spoke at length in order to apprise the newly elected president of the steps to be taken to make the movement vibrant in the State and sonorous in order to achieve its well envisaged ideals and objectives.
The programme started with lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest and grandees, which was followed by fascinating cultural items presented by the Scouts and Guides of Shangrilla Public School and Dewan Devi, Higher Secondary School in an appreciating manner.
