Girl jumps into Tawi

JAMMU, May 10: A girl today attempted suicide by jumping into River Tawi in this winter capital of the State.
According to a police spokesperson, a 25-year-old girl identified as Arpana Sarmal daughter of Moti Ram, a resident of Dadwal (Gandoh) jumped into River Tawi from the main bridge near Bikram Chowk, this afternoon.
He said the flying squad Gypsy deployed in Jewel Chowk area immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, who fell into shallow waters.
He said the girl received minor injuries and was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where her condition was stated to be stable but not fit for statement. The girl was studying in a Paramedical Institute here at Satwari. She was a student of Part-I.
A case in this regard has been registered at Nowabad police station and investigations started to ascertain the reasons of her taking this extreme step.
