JAMMU, May 11: “New Genre”, a three-day artists’ camp organized by Viraj Kala Kendra, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu at Viraj Art Gallery, Jammu to commemorate the 20 years of establishing Viraj Art Gallery, concluded with the display of the works of the participants of the camp.
N D Jamwal, a well known senior artist and writer was the chief guest and Amrik Singh Namdhari, a senior and well known sculptor of the State was the guest of honour.
Eleven young artists of Jammu participated in the camp. The works created in the camp give a look of diverse tendencies of creation and expression. Generally the works have been executed in acrylics but the content matter and the innovations in technique and expression vary from one to another artist.
The works of Shakti and Sahil Ohri depict abstract elements in landscape visuals with subdued tones and hues. The works of Amrit Kaur and Anuradha are concerned with human element association with nature and female figure or its existence gives a touch of femininity to the aesthetic beauty of their paintings.
In the works of Rachita Datta and Simran Dogra abstraction through expressionist strokes and colour schemes impress the viewers. Suresh Sharma has chosen the folk theme of wander musicians in mystic colour schematic patterns.
Dhananjay Sharma, Anup K Gupta and Tushar Verma have tried test their hands in symbolic idiom of their the creations.
While speaking on the occasion, Raj Bharti said that Viraj Kala Kendra will get good works of the new generation artists of Jammu in its collection.
In his address N D Jamwal motivated the young artists with the narration of his coming to the field of visual arts from his basic intentions towards creating literary works. He told the participants that only hard work and proficiency in delivering the professional output will make them successful in their endeavour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were painter Milam, theatrist Susham Sharma, senior artist Jang S Vermin, OP Sharma, Director, JKCCA, well known sculptor Bisamber Mehta and painter Jatinder Kaur.
