Rally organised for inclusion of Bhoti in 8th Schedule

ZANASKAR, (Ladakh)  Aug 11: The Himalayan Sambhota Culture & Welfare Association Zanskar (HSCWAZ) in collaboration with the Zanskar Buddhist Association and Zanaskar Gompa Association organized a peaceful rally in Padum Zanaskar reiterating their demand regarding inclusion of Bhoti Language in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The rally was emphatically supported by people from every nook and corner of Zanskar Valley which includes men, women, monks, nuns and school children in large numbers. The rally started from Maniringmo Chowk and ended at the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar. It was also addressed by Thundup Phuntsog, president Zanskar Buddhist Association, Tsering Dorjey, president Gonpa Association, Zanskar, Stanzin Dachom, Legal advisor, HSCWAZ.
Addressing the rally the speakers said the Bhoti language has a unique and rich cultural heritage with its own language, script, grammar, art, literature and religion which needs to be preserved and promoted. The traditional culture of this area is very ancient and rich morally, spiritually and socially. The Bhoti language originated in the seventh century and Thosmi Sambhota is considered to be the founder of the language who laid down its foundation by constructing its grammar based on Devanagri script (Lipi), they added.
They said the grammar of Bhoti language consists of four vowels and 30 consonants which is a complete code in itself and added Thosmi Sambhota has written many books on the grammar of Bhoti language and many scholars added to the vault of Bhoti language by scripting marvel pieces of literature.
They said the language is used by the people living in Himalayan region and is spoken by about  30 lakh people spread across the six states of India including Ladakh region and Paddar in J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh.
The speakers said that it is unfortunate that this rich cultural heritage of India is being neglected pushing it into the realm of extinction which will rob the people of Himalayan region of their culture and identity.
