Kathua admn to hold Gram Sabhas for BPL/APL ration cards

KATHUA, May 16: District Administration is organizing Gram Sabhas in 244 Panchayats and urban wards of municipal councils and committees of towns from 19th May to 23rd May 2015 across the district to verify the existing BPL Ration Cards and inclusion of BPL & APL families for distribution of ration as per 2011 census instead of existing 2001 census. This will be a major relief for more than 25,000 uncovered families.
Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary chaired a meeting of Tehsildars, BDOs, Executive Officers and TSOs for finalising arrangements for holding Gram Sabhas for verification and inclusion of families in the BPL list and making new ration cards in respect of uncovered areas.
Addl DDC Dr Manmohan Singh, Addl DC Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, AC Anshul Garg, AC Revenue Atul Gupta, DIO Indu Jamwal, DIO-NIC Sideshwar Bhagat, AD CAPD T B Singh and officers of various departments attended the meeting.
Gram Sabhas will be organised covering around 30-40 Panchayats per day across 19 CD blocks and around 20 wards of municipal committees. More than 30,000 families will be verified and added during the Gram Sabhas and Municipal Ward Sabhas over a period of one week followed by release of ration as per 2011 Census. On May 19th 84 Panchayats will be covered followed by 54, 52, 29 and 19 on May 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
The DDC called for wide publicity of Gram Sabha schedule for greater public participation and ensuring transparency in verification of BPL APL ration cards and inclusion of additional families as per 2011 Census to ensure that every family is provided ration as per economic status under targeted public distribution.
He directed the officers to ensure that no family is left away from the Gram Sabha verification. He called upon CAPD officials to make separate list of left over nomadic families and verification of existing nomadic list.
Tehsildars, BDOs, TSO and CDPOs will coordinate the Gram Sabha while in urban areas the EOs of ULBs will be nodal officers. Ration Depot wise list of APL BPL and AAY will be displayed at respective Panchayat Ghars where lists will be read out and objections taken on record. Uncovered families will be covered as per resolution of Gram Panchayat.
In a mammoth exercise for ensuring coverage of 100% families for ration cards and ration distribution more than 5000 employees will be making efforts to ensure universal inclusion, transparency and public participation.
