JAMMU, May 17: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” by organizing a seminar on theme “Telecommunications and ICTs: Drivers of Innovation” here today. The seminar was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments and organizations.
The seminar was chaired by Atul Sharma, ITS, General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Jammu and presided over by Er Hem Chander Jerath, Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre.
Five papers on the theme topic were presented by Er SC Thukral, Er BL Rawal, Er Supinder Jeet Singh, Er Rajesh Kumar Angural and Er Parul Sharma.
The speakers deliberated at length on the theme topic and informed the house that Indian telecommunication network is the 2nd largest in the world based on total number of telephone users. They also informed the audience that World’s 3rd largest internet user base is in our country. One of the speakers made the house aware about the impending telecommunication scenario after introduction of 4G with very interesting and knowledgeable Power Point Presentation slides.
An interactive session was also held after the technical session which was presided over by Er BB Sharma, Immediate Past Chairman of Jammu Centre.
Engineers present in the house lamented the reckless digging of roads of the city for laying of optical fiber cable for introduction of 4G by the concerned player. In this regard, Er Anil Verma, former Secretary of Jammu Local Centre suggested the Reliance Jio Infocom Limited for Jammu Circle to explore the possibility of hiring the already laid down optical fiber network of other players like Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and PDD for 4G.
Chief guest Atul Sharma, ITS, emphasized on the need to use the ICTs in the right perspective because they are akin to two edged sword.
Er Mohinder Singh, Secretary presented the welcome address, conducted the proceedings of the seminar and proposed the vote of thanks.
