SRINAGAR, May 18: President of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Abdul Qayoom Wani today threatened to Gharao Civil Secretariat if Government failed to bring out clear cut policy on daily wagers and casual labourers by May 28.
While addressing a press conference here, Wani said: “Lakhs of employees will flood the streets outside Civil Secretariat on May 28, if Government fails to bring out in open, its policy on employees working as daily wagers, casual labourers, seasonal and temporary workers in various departments across Jammu and Kashmir and Government will be itself responsible for the consequences “, Wani said.
Wani said casual labourers and daily wagers are the backbone of Government departments which would become defunct without their services and they have put it 10 to 15 years of service in these departments and their regularization was long overdue. “The previous NC led Coalition Government had appointed a high power committee in this regard but delayed its implementation to gain political mileage during elections but unfortunately the present Government too is using delaying tactics for reasons best know to them”, Wani said.
While referring to two major protest demonstrations recently held at Pratap Park and Maulana Azad Road, he said police used brute force to suppress peaceful protesters. He threatened that protests will be intensified in future if Government continued to use suppressing tactics and failed to devise a proper plan of regularization of approximately 60,000 daily wagers and casual labourers.
