Top HM comdr among 2 militants trapped, 2 Army men injured

Srinagar, May 19: Two Army personnel were injured in a fierce gun battle at Heff Shirmal in South Kashmir’s Shopian district this evening while security forces have trapped two top militants of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants at Lonepora village in Heff Shirmal area of Shopian, Army’s 55 RR and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area this evening.
During the searches militants hiding in the area fired on Army party injuring two of them. The Army retaliated leading to a brief gun battle.
The search of the area is going on and security forces believe that the two militants have been trapped inside the village. They are Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Waseem Malla and his associate Saddam Paddar.
The two injured Army men were immediately evacuated to Srinagar’s Base hospital for treatment.
The operation is going on and the cordon around the village has been strengthened to prevent militants from fleeing the area.
