Srinagar, May 19: The Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court today granted two weeks time to Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, to file response to the allegations leveled against him in multi-crore JKCA scam.
The Division Bench of the High Court, comprising Chief Justice N P Vasantha Kumar and Justice D S Thakur, after hearing Dr Farooq’s counsel, Advocate Jehanghir Ganai, gave him two weeks time to file the response. Earlier, last week court had summoned Dr Farooq in multi-crore JKCA scam.
The court also directed Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scam to file fresh status report about the status of investigation.
Earlier, last week Additional Advocate General (AAG) B A Dar submitted before the court that they may be granted some time for filing of latest status report with regard to investigation into the scam as huge amount of Rs 113 crore has been misappropriated.
The documents that were seized by the police were damaged in the last year’s floods and police is re-constructing the data which is hampering the investigations.
The PIL has been filed by the two persons namely Majid Yaqoob Dar and Nissar Ahmad Khan who remained to be the Ranji Trophy Player and Club Level Player respectively. They alleged that multi-crore embezzlement has been done by JKCA members.
Police in the meantime has issued notices to the office bearers of the JKCA who have taken money from the Association and have not returned it.
Police have also written letters to BCCI and sought their clarification on the amount of money which they had sent to the JKCA. The BCCI has given a detailed reply about the money they had transferred into the JKCA accounts.
