Srinagar, May 19: A South Kashmir village that has produced around 100 militants during last 25 years has thrown a surprise today, as two girls topped the class 10th examinations by securing first and second positions.
Dadsar area in Tral area of South Kashmir has produced around 100 militants in last 25 years and today two girls of the village, Anika Shabir and Shareera Shameem, secured first and second positions in the 10th class examinations by securing 494 marks and 491 marks respectively out of 500.
Aneeka Shabir with an aim to become Professor has all praises for God and her parents and teachers. “My aim is to become a Professor. I am thankful to God, my parents and my teachers for this achievement”, she said.
Aneeka said that she started preparing for the examinations right from the beginning of the session. “Two to three hours serious daily study is enough to achieve good results. I started preparing for examination right from the beginning of the session and students should not wait for the examinations to start the preparations”, she added.
Her father, Shabir Ahmad Rather, want his daughter to touch new heights in future. “I want her to study with the same zeal, her progress and achieve more,” he said.
Shareera Shameem, who secured second position wants to study medicine to become a doctor. “I am thankful to God who blessed me with success and parents and teachers without whose contribution it was not possible”, she said.
Her father, Shameem Ahmad Shameem’s gave all credit for his daughter success to teachers. “It thank her teachers for her success”, he added.
The Principal Haja-Ahad Public School Dadsar Tral, Imtiyaz Ahmad, praised the duo for bringing laurels to his school. “It is a dream come true for us. I had full confidence that these two girls will achieve top positions. The way they performed in the class tests, we expected them to get 500 marks out of 500”, he said.
While on one hand the village is celebrating the success of two girls for their feat, here in Srinagar, the families of two boys who were also declared successful in the 10 standard examinations today are mourning as their wards drowned in Jhelum 10 days ago and their bodies are yet to be retrieved.
Two boys – Faizan Malik of Sonwar and Mohammad Haseeb Bhat of Khanyar – who slipped into the river Jhelum at Zaina Kadal area while trying to retrieve a cricket ball 10 days ago were declared successful in the examination.
Faizan with Roll No 8119273, has secured 347/500 marks and Haseeb has also passed the examination. The results added to their grief and large number of people today visited the families.
A girl from South Kashmir whose passed the 10th standard examination in the morning died in the afternoon after a fire incident at her home leading to pall of gloom in the area.
The girl identified as Asifa Nazir (roll number 1149235) had secured 327 marks out of 500 in the examination and a gas cylinder blast took place in their house at Shampora Qazigund due to leakage of the gas during cooking. Due to leakage of gas, the house caught fire and instantly other four gas cylinders in the kitchen exploded with a big bang due to which the house was completed gutted.
As the house is located on the roadside, they said, three persons including a load carrier driver and a pedestrian were also injured in the blast. The injured are Abdul Majid Malik of Batpora Srinagar, Mohammad Latif Mir of Nowgund Qazigund and Mushtaq Ahmad Rather of Panzath.
The 10th class examinations that were scheduled to be held last year were held in March this year as they were postponed due to floods. The results announced today have seen a slight decline in pass percentage as compared to last year.
This year the overall pass percentage is 71.85 percent with boys at 74.5 percent and girls at 68.8 percent. The first three positions have been shared by seven girls, while the second position is shared by four girls with 491 marks and the third position is shared by two girls who have obtained 490 marks. The first 20 positions are shared by 182 students.
This year 26900 boys and 23600 girls had appeared in the examination.
