PM iasednvokes ‘Dinkar’, calls for end to caste-b politics

NEW DELHI :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invoked poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, calling for an end to caste-based politics and stressed the need for eastern India, including Bihar, to catch up with the Western part if India was to progress.    Speaking at a function here to mark the golden jubilee of two of  Dinkarâ’s great works ‘Sanskriti ke chaar adhyaay’ and and ‘Parshuram ki pratiksha,’ the Prime Minister recalled a letter written by the great Hindi poet in 1961 in which he had emphasised that his native Bihar must forget caste-based divisions and work for a merit-based society.
In the letter, ‘Dinkar’ had further said that if the people of Bihar did not rise above caste, public life in the state would decay.    Describing Rashtraka Dinkar as a great visionary, Prime Minister Modi said Dinkarâ’s poems which were once memorised by thousands, assimilated India’s heritage and culture and were the best way to understand India’s essence.    Mr Modi said there were very few creations which stood the scrutiny of time, the way Dinkarâ’s writing had.
Dinkar wanted to light a path and show the way forward for society through his writings, the Prime Minister said, adding that Dinkarâ’s works had continued to provide inspiration to achieve and progress to  generations of Indians.
