Governor reviews Amarnath Yatra arrangements

SRINAGAR, May 22: Governor, N.N Vohra, who is Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, chaired a meeting to review the arrangements for the forthcoming Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on 2nd July 2015.
The review meeting was attended by P.K. Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Jitendra Singh, Addl. CEO; Showkat Aijaz Bhat, Deputy Commisioner Ganderbal; Bashir Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag; Reyaz Wani, CEO Pahalgam Development Authority; and Shabir A. Bhat, CEO Sonamarg Development Authority.
The Governor reviewed the to-date status of the action being taken by the Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag and Ganderbal and CEOs of Pahalgam and Sonamarg Development Authorities for making the required arrangements for the forthcoming Yatra. The Governor was informed about the facilities being provided to the Yatris including power, water supply and medical facilities in the entire Yatra area.
After the discussions the Governor directed that timely action should be taken to ensure complete registration of Ponies, Pony-wallas, Dandi-wallas and Palki-wallas; it is important from the security angle and otherwise to ensure that no unauthorized person embarks on the Yatra tracks. Arrangements regarding the provision of safety measures at the Base Camps, at Baltal and Nunwan Base Camps, particularly Fire and Emergency services, were also discussed.
The Governor was also informed about the steps being taken by the Pahalgam and Sonamarg Development Authorities for the proper collection and disposal of solid wastes which would be generated during the Yatra. The Governor also reviewed the arrangements being made for the daily collection and disposal of garbage and maintenance of cleanliness in all the Camps.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held at Raj Bhavan here under the chairmanship of P.K Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, (SASB) for finalizing the Action Plan for  collection and disposal of waste generated during the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
The meeting held detailed discussions in regard to garbage collection and its disposal, maintenance of Toilets and Baths, operation and maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plants at Baltal and Nunwan Base Camp and disposal of plastic waste generated during the Yatra period.
It was decided that all solid waste generated during Yatra will be managed by Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) and the Shrine Board in the respective areas of their  responsibility and collection in the identified garbage collection centres in Sonamarg and Pahalgam where required infrastructure as per Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Rules would be put in place by Pahalgam Development Authority and Sonamarg Development Authority in accordance with the advice of the State Pollution Control Board.
CEO urged Deputy Commissioners of Ganderbal and Anantnag districts, CEOs of PDA and SDA and General Manager (Works), SASB, to keep a close watch to ensure segregation of waste collected into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and transport non- biodegradable waste to the collection centre earmarked for the purpose and ensure its proper disposal.
