JKHWA deputation meets Ministers, highlights demands

JAMMU, May 23: A deputation of Jammu-Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association (JKHWA) under the leadership of its district president, Jammu, Choudhary Kamal Singh, met various ministers in Srinagar and apprised them of the long pending demands of the handicapped.
The demands taken up by the deputation with Minister included vertical reservation in employment for handicapped, office accommodation in each district, allotment of plots or shops on concessional rates, provision of scooters in place of tri-cycle to disabled persons, appointment of full time disability commissioner, health cover with special package, free medical treatment in Government hospitals and private nursing homes, separate counters to be opened for persons with disability in every Government and semi-Government office and re-advertisement of backlog vacancies since 1998 till date.
Kamal Singh said that the Government has agreed to meet the genuine demands of the association. He further said that though the Government has implemented Court orders for providing 25% reservation to the students from disabled families but the private schools have been denying the reservation to them. He appealed the Government to ensure proper reservation in private institutions for the wards of disabled persons.
