Justice Mir reviews implementation of laws for welfare of workers

SRINAGAR, May  25: Under the chairmanship of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority, a meeting with the Labour Commissioner of J&K and Assistant Labour Commissioners of Jammu province was held to discuss implementation of NALSA (Legal Services to the Workers in Unorganised Sector) Scheme, 2010 and assess the progress made in implementation of Building and other Construction Workers  (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act, 1996 and Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 in the state, as both the Acts pertain to the welfare of the workers in unorganised sector.
Detailed discussions were held in the meeting on the plight of unorganised workers in securing their statutory rights and availing the benefits of the various schemes.
Executive Chairman stressed upon the Labour Department to take up the constitution of Welfare Board under unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 with the Government on priority basis. The role of Legal Services Authority viz-a-viz these Acts was also discussed. Executive Chairman directed all Chairpersons of DLSAs and TLSCs through Secretary Legal Services Authority to cooperate with Labour Department for organising awareness camps to apprise the workers in unorganised sector to avail the benefits of welfare schemes incorporated under Building and other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act, 1996 and Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008.
