SRINAGAR, May 27: Minister of State for Social Welfare, Asiya Naqash today met the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Najma A Heptulla and discussed various issues related to the scholarship schemes implemented by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs in the State.
Ms. Asiya urged the Union Minister to bring more students under the Pre Matric, Post Matric & Merit-cum-Means Scholarships Schemes.
She said as many as 33874 students have submitted online forms under the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme and Post Matric scholarship scheme, out of which only 21052 students have been cleared through DBT Mode, leaving out 12822 students for which she requested the Union Minister to clear the remaining students at the earliest.
Ms. Asiya further informed the Union Minister that with respect to Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for the minorities, the Action Plan 2014-15 for Rs. 61.33 crore stands already submitted against which Rs. 22.31 crore have been released so far. She also requested the Union Minister to address the issue of pending payment under the Multi-Sectoral Development Programme for Minorities in select minority concentration districts, which presently includes Leh district and Nowshera block of Rajouri District.
Mrs. Heptulla assured the Minister that Union Government will extend all possible assistance to the State for the benefit of minorities and other deprived sections of the society.
