Pleasant weather continues, sun goes behind clouds in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Pleasant weather continued in the Kashmir valley, where sun goes behind the clouds after making brief but full appearance in the morning.
The mercury also remained below normal, making the weather more pleasant for tourists who had come from different parts of the country, where heat wave has claimed about 2,000 lives so far. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there was a possibility of isolated rain during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, during the subsequent two days there is possibility of scattered to fairly wide spread to wide spread rain or thundershower. People in Leh and Kargil witnessed further drop in the minimum temperature. Kargil, a border town in Ladakh region recorded lowest 2.2 degrees Celsius minimum temperature while at Leh it was 2.6 degrees.
He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 19 degrees and 5 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. After recording 26.3 degrees maximum temperature which was one degree below normal yesterday, the minimum temperature also witnessed a dip.
He said there is possibility of thundery development this evening while the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26 degrees and 13 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. Gulmarg recorded lowest 4.6 degrees in the Valley which was more than two notches below normal while at Pahalgam it was 4.8 degrees, more than notch below normal. At Qazigund, the minimum temperature was 9.2 degrees, two notches below normal while at kokernag it was 9.5 degrees, 1.5 notches below normal.
At Kupwara it was 9.8 degrees, a notch below normal, he said. However, there will be no respite from the heat wave in Jammu where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 40 degree and 26 degree respectively. (AGENCIES)
