SRINAGAR, May 29:
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) based Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Syed Salahuddin’s native villagers in Kashmir have sought the help of Army in central Kashmir district of Badgam, where Rashtriya Rifles (RR) provided equipments to local hospital and computers to schools.
A Defence Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant colonel N N Joshi said here today that a social activist of village Soibugh has presented to the GOC 15 Corps Lt General Subrata Saha the case of 41 families who had lost their houses and other belongings in the September last year devastating flood.
Mutahida Jehad Counil, a PoK based alliance of various militant outfits, is headed by Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin who belongs to the village once a stronghold of militants in 90s. However, he exfiltrated into PoK and remained there since those years.
As part of the ongoing endeavour to help the village in upgradation of social infrastructure in the field of education, healthcare, sports and talent building, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit of Chinar Corps organised an event at Government Middle School, for presentation of infrastructural assistance to the Public Health Centre (PHC) and Government Middle School of the village.
The event also provided the platform to the children to showcase their cultural as well as martial art talent. Lt Col Joshi said Lt Gen Saha was chief guest while Major General Asit Mistry, GOC Kilo Force and many other civil dignitaries were present on the occasion.
In last September, Soibugh was adversely affected by the devastating floods, he said, adding since then the residents of this village have been approaching Army for social intervention in installation of transformers, revitalisation of water supply, boosting the capacities of Primary Health Centre and improving the road connectivity.
While some issues were projected to civil administration, aspects that were implementable within the scope of Sadhbhavana projects were taken on by army.
A brief ceremony for presentation of assistance was held during which the PHC of the village was presented with medical equipments such as ECG machines, oxygen concentrator, nebulizers, ultrasonic scanners and a generator set. The Government Middle School was also provided six computers and peripherals and related furniture.
During the event Mr Ahmad, a social activist from the area met Lt Gen Subrata Saha and introduced him to the Halshari Heroes, a volunteer force working for the good of the people. Mr Ahmad also presented to the GOC, the case of 41 families that were worst hit during the floods and had lost their houses. While the local representatives appreciated Army for the timely and much needed boost to the education and health infrastructure, Lt Gen Saha commended the people for the turnaround given by them to the village with the support of Army.
