TNWS organizes interactive program on consumer rights with CWA

JAMMU, June 2:  Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society (TNWS) organized an interactive program with Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) and invited Dy Controller, Legal Metrology and Dy Director CAPD, at TNWS office for creating awareness among the residents of Trikuta Nagar about Rights, Duties and their responsibilities as consumers which was attended by large number of residents, members of TNWS and CWA, today.
The program was initiated by Vikram Gour, president CWA who gave a comprehensive overview about the consumer rights and educated the members present about the ways and means to be adopted by consumers to protect their rights as enshrined in the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
Gour also elaborated the procedure to be adopted for seeking redressal of the complaints and the agencies to be approached as also the names of the officers and institutions to be approached for addressing the grievances.
Complaints could also be made against defective services rendered by private as well as Government agencies like Power Supply, Water Supply, Health Services, BSNL or any such agencies offering paid services to the consumers.
CWA also distributed among the participants copies of J&K Consumer Protection Act 1987 and the consumer rights. Members were very critical of the repeated unscheduled power cuts, extremely unreliable service of BSNL and fleecing of patients by those connected with Health Care.
Manoj Prabhakar, Dy Director, Legal Metrology gave a detailed account of the working of the department and  the measures taken by his organization to check malpractices and advised the members present to be vigilant about their rights and come forward with their genuine complaints so that enforcement agencies are able to take appropriate action against defaulters .
