Dr Jitendra meets Rajnath; HM speaks to CM

NEW DELHI, June 5: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances ,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh , who was on a one – day visit to Jammu & Kashmir yesterday, called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in his North Block office this morning and briefed him about the situation arising in the wake of violent clashes in Jammu over the last two days.
Dr Jitendra Singh requested the Union Home Minister to personally intervene and instruct the Union Home Ministry to directly monitor the situation. Union Home Secretary L C Goyal was also present when Dr Jitendra Singh met Rajnath Singh.
Soon thereafter, Rajnath Singh called up Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and discussed the situation with him. The Chief Minister assured him that the State Government was capable of dealing with the situation on its own and soon the things will get under control.
Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh issued instructions to officials in the Home Ministry that if required or demanded by the State Government, extra contingents of armed forces may be immediately placed at their disposal so that the situation could be brought under control without causing any further loss of life or property. He also issued instructions to the Department to receive regular updates about the status of the situation in Jammu-Pathankot sector which have been disturbed for the last two days.
Rajnath Singh also appealed to the people of Jammu and Punjab to exercise restraint and not get provoked by elements which try to further instigate the situation.
Speaking to media persons after his meeting with the Union Home Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh said, BJP-led Government at the Centre is committed to provide security to all communities and all sections of society under all circumstances. A series of surveys in recent past have indicated that the minorities feel more secure under a BJP-led regime than any other political party, he added. Therefore, he said, people from all faiths should trust the intentions and capability of Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to safeguard their interests.
Dr Jitendra Singh also appealed to elder members from civil society to sit together and sort out things so that strife is immediately brought to a halt.
