Ridhima Sood, who hails from an affluent Punjabi family of Delhi, is all set to make her debut in Hindi films with Zoya Akhtar’s directorial venture “Dil Dhadakne Do’’ . Born in Delhi, Ridhima completed her 12th from DPS (R K Puram) school and was packed off to New York University to complete her education. There Ridhima acquired a major in economics and politics. It was there that she first discovered her love for being on stage “I’d been dabbling with theatre since I was 13. But after college she landed a 9 AM to 5 PM job at Wall Street. Six months into the job, she snapped. “I realised it was not my thing I didn’t belong there. I wanted to go out and discover my creative side. I wanted to become an actress.
After moving back to India, Ridhima started modelling for beauty brands like Ponds and Kaya skin. She shot campaigns for Vodafone, coca-cola, Titan and e-Bay. But she wanted to home her acting skills further. “I decided to attend acting studio of the nenowned Lary Moss in Los Angles.’ There Ridhima became actor/filmmaker Tobey Maguire’s classmate (of “Spider man’’ fame). Soon she was offered a role in “The Ballad of Rustom’’. She also acted in the Dubai segment of ‘The Owner’’. Ridhima’s dreams of acting is a Bollywood film came true when she was called to audition for a role in director Zoya Akhtar’s “Dil Dhadkane Do’’. Zoya personally took the audition and soon Ridhima was a part of ‘DDD’’.
‘Dil Dhadakne Do’’ has a steller ensemble cast which includes Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah.
Mostly shot on a cruise ship with a balanced dose of comedy, love and an exoitic slice of life. Film seems to be a fancy cocktail that sets the mood for a great party. “DDD’’ mainly revolves around Priyanka and Ranveer Singh who play brother and sister in this film. Anushka Sharma and Farhan provides romantic interest.
Obviously, Ridhima was quite worried about making a debut is such a big and star-studded movie. However, her worries faded away once she started shooting “It felt amazing to work with all of them. They are warm and affable people and they reached out to me knowing I was a newcomer. They understood it would be overwhelming for someone like me who suddenly found herself on an outdoor shoot with so many stars.
We hope and wish Ridhima best of luck in 2015. After “DDD”, “Kajarya’’ will be her 2nd movie to hit silver screen. Directed by Madhureeta Anand, “Kajarya’’ deals with female infanticide. Ridhima has already signed a 3 film deal with Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham film production company.
