JU Academic Council endorses various agenda items

JAMMU, June 6: Jammu University Academic Council, which met yesterday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma,   endorsed the Statutes, Scheme and Syllabi for two years B Ed and M Ed. Courses 2015, drafted as per the recommendations of Justice Verma Commission and NCFTE.
The Academic Council also accorded approval to the calendar for holding the examinations and the vacation schedule of the Bhaderwah Campus.   It was also resolved to introduce two Post Graduate Diploma courses in “Banking and Risk Management and “Accounting and Finance”    in collaboration with National Stock Exchange (NSE) both under Self Financing mode. Payment of self-supporting fee in M Sc Biochemistry and M Sc Microbiology programmes in two, equal, yearly installments was also endorsed.
The Academic Council witnessed active discussion on various academic matters and for some items, it was resolved to have more discussion in faculties and committees.
During the meeting, 30 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Dean, Faculty of Law, was unanimously elected by the Academic Council as the member of the University Syndicate.
Pertinent to mention that Academic Council is the highest academic body of the University, which takes important decisions related to all the academic issues of the University and its affiliated colleges.
The  meeting was attended by Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof  Posh Charak, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various faculties, Rectors and Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, Deans of University of Kashmir namely Prof Nisar A. Rather, Dean Faculty of Physical and Material Science, Prof  Khurshid A Bhat, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management studies, Prof  M  Y  Shah, Dean Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof  Rukaya, Dean Oriental Languages, College Principals and other officials.
