SRINAGAR, June 6: One day Adventure Tourism Meet was organized by Tourism Department in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation here at SKICC today. A detailed discussion was held how to revive adventure tourism and the steps need to be taken for boosting the activity in the State.
Director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah, President, Indian Mountaineering Foundation Col Chaudhary, former DG Tourism, senior officers of Tourism Department, executive members of foundation,  members from Kashmir Travel Trade and adventure sports lovers were present in the meeting.
Highlighting the pros and cons of the activity, the President of the Foundation said that foundation will train local youth, who will become guides of those coming for adventure tourism and scaling of new peaks and heights in Kashmir. He said the Mountaineering Institutes at Gulmarg and Sonamarg would be utilized for the purpose.
President said this will give the youth an employment and improve their socio economic conditions, especially those living in rural areas. He said the youth will be imparted disaster management training also to prepare them for saving the people in natural catastrophe.
Colonel Chaudhary said that there is no dearth of high altitudes and peaks in Valley and underlined need for their exploration. He said a monthly magazine would be published to highlight the new peaks aimed to attract foreign as well as domestic tourists loving adventure sports.
