JAMMU, June 12: In order to curb the menace of food adulteration, a team of the Food Safety officers under the supervision of Sanjeev Kumar, Asstt Controller Food, Municipal Limit Jammu (MLJ), carried out surprise check of various food establishments dealing with food articles of day to day consumption.
During the drive, M/s Vermani Karyana Store, Nanak Nagar was put to thorough checking. It was observed that Noodles, Pastas and Macaroni with tastemakers of all makes and brands are available in the market. Accordingly, in line with the guidelines issued by FSSAI vide Advisory dated 08.06.2015, the said Food business operator was instructed not to sell these products.
After tracking the flow pattern of above food products, the team inspected premises of Angel Traders, Sanjay Nagar; Amit and Company, Dogra Hall (Both ITC Godown) and Madan Lal Kamal Kishore, Kanak Mandi, Jammu and found 1728 packets of Pasta /Noodles.
Accordingly, the said FBOs were instructed not to sell these products and take necessary steps to recall such food products from the market for further destruction as per norms within three days. The consumers have been advised to check the label claims of energy drinks with regard to presence of ginseng and caffeine as such drinks stand prohibited by the apex food authority for the reason that these drinks can pose serious health risks.
Meanwhile, Licensing Authority, Jammu (Retail) issued Show Cause Notice to M/s Rama Medicos, Anand Nagar, Tomal Bohri, Talab Tillo under Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940 and Rules 1945 for alleged involvement in procurement of intoxicating drugs. The proprietor cum qualified person of the said firm was detained by In charge, Police Post, Canal Road, Jammu. The firm has been given a week’s time to explain its position failing which ex- party decision shall follow.
Raids on Goods Carriers NITCO Roadways and DHL at Narwal Bye Pass were also carried out by the Officers of Drugs Control to check State Bound Consignments particularly with an objective to tighten noose on unscrupulous elements indulging in unfair trade practices (importation of intoxicating and habit forming drugs). During the drive, it was observed that one consignment carrying Capsules OCM-O, Batch No :E1181, Mfg Date: Oct, 2013 Expiry: Sep, 2015 booked by M/s Fabino Life Sciences Limited, Murthal Road, Sonipat Vide No: 00062 dated 04.06.201 through NITCO Lines for M/s Mono Healthcare, Jawahar Market, R.N Bazar was bearing short expiry i.e Sep, 2015 and the same was being pushed into the State despite clear guidelines by manufacturing companies that such drugs which are having less than six months shelf life shall be recalled from the market. This action has been as intentional move on the part of manufacturers to push short expiry drugs into the State.
