18 bovine animals rescued, 2 arrested

RAJOURI, June 13:  The police seized 18 bovine animals being smuggled to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road and arrested two persons in this connection.
Police sources said that Thannamandi police party led by SHO Inspector Narinder Singh Chib under the supervision of SDPO Iftqar Talib during nakka early today seized 10 bovine animals which were being taken towards Kashmir. After crossing the nakka on outskirts of the town, they had to transport the animals in a truck  for Valley.
The police rescued the animals and  arrested one smuggler. He has been identified as Shakoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Rahim, resident of Khablan in Thannamandi. In this connection, a case FIR No. 81/2015 has been registered at Police Station Thannamandi.
Another police party  led by SI Jahangir Ahmed during naka at Workshop bridge in Rajouri town seized eight animals from the possession of one Gulzar Hussain, son of Mohd Abdullah, resident of Khoriwali in Darhal. He was carrying these animals to Kashmir via Mughal Road without any permission. A case FIR No. 309/2015 has been registered against the accused person.
There has been an increase in the activities of bovine smuggling via Mughal Road during last several weeks. Police claimed that Since January  this year, 238 bovine animals were rescued and 21 vehicles seized till now  and 106 persons were booked in the disrtrict.
