JAMMU: The Coordination Committee (CC), an amalgam of various non political and social organisations today deferred three-day bandh call for setting up AIIMS in Jammu on the assurance of the Government.
The Committee members this afternoon had a detailed meeting with the Jammu and Kashmir delegation headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.
The Committee had announced 72 hours shutdown from Jun 19 to pressure the Government to revert its decision of establishing AIIMS in Kashmir, which was sanctioned to Jammu by the Centre in the budget.
“The ongoing chain hunger strike started last week has been suspended for a while and the bandh call has also been deferred on the assurance of the Government,” a Committee member here said.
He said the Government has assured that a notification will soon be issued on setting up AIIMS in Jammu.
“If they failed to keep their words, an intensified agitation will be launched after July 20,” he asserted.
