B.Ed / M .Ed programmes

The decision of creating anomaly in the duration of same educational courses in two universities of the State defies logic. Relaxation in the duration of completion of B.Ed/M. Ed courses in Kashmir University and not in Jammu University has agitated the student community in Jammu. There is a stir among the students and they are planning to resort to massive demonstration against discrimination. Why should Education Department adopt double standards is inexplicable. Though Jammu University has made a clarification over the duration extension vis-à-vis latest norms as per Justice Verma Committee recommendations regarding B Ed and M Ed programmes, the students have reservations and are not convinced. Actually, the irritant is that when norms are same and rules are identical, what has necessitated Kashmir University to give relaxation in Justice Verma committee recommendations and deny the same to Jammu university students.
We feel that this is not a wise move on the part of the Government and is fraught with serious consequences. Former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak has made very sensible remark and we would entreat the Education Department to go by his sane advice of stopping this un-thoughtful and hasty move until a proper exercise is done in this regard so that the new scheme is implemented simultaneously in both the Universities of the State.
