JAMMU, June 23: Rich tributes were paid to former president of Bharatiya Jana Singh (BJS), Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee by the State BJP leaders on his 62nd Balidan Divas here today.
The Party’s Jammu district president and MLA Rajesh Gupta and Jammu West president, Subash Jandial  organized a joint function in this connection at Party headquarters.
The function was attended by BJP State president & MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, former president and senior leader Ashok Khajuria, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, Senior leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, national secretary Farooq Khan, State vice-presidents Sat Sharma (MLA) and Usha Choudhary, Mahila Morcha State president Poornima Sharma and MLA Shakti Parihar.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore Sharma said Dr Mookerjee sacrificed his life while fighting to end the permit system under which any one leaving or entering the J&K State had to obtain a permit and this practice did not exist in any other state of the country.
“It was the sacrifices of Dr Mookerjee that Jammu and Kashmir  became totally integral part of the country and it was considered as one of the great steps in the national interest”, said Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, adding, Dr Mookerjee never compromised on principles and questioned the provision of separate symbols for this State”.
In his address, Shamsher Singh Manhas said, “person like Mookerjee are very rare and their life serves a source of inspiration for generations to come and as far as BJP is concerned Dr Mookerjee is a source of inspiration for entire BJP cadre”.
MLC Ashok Khajuria recalled the sacrifice made by the patriot for the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the nation. He said that Mookerjee laid down his life opposing the system of having two sets of laws for Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country.
The death anniversary of Dr Mookerjee was also observed by BJP at district Kathua where a function was organized by the Party in this regard.
Addressing the function, MLA Kathua and Party general secretary Rajeev Jasrotia said this great leader sacrificed his life for the total integration of J&K with rest of India clearing all doubts about the accession of the State by making it full and final.
He said Dr Mookerjee sacrificed his life while agitating to end the permit system. He said this is not an auspicious day for the Party and people of the State but for the entire nation. Terming Dr Mookerjee a tallest leader of the country who never compromised on his principles, he said the late leader continued his fight against separate symbol for State.
BJP district president Advocate Vijay Kumar also paid rich tributes to Dr Mookerjee at a function held at district office.
Another function was organized by BJP at Party Office Udhampur  which was presided over by State secretary, Pawan Khajuria.  Paying tributes to Dr Mookerjee Pawan Khajuria recalled his sacrifices and said he was a great patriot who laid down his life for total integration of J&K with rest of India.
He said Dr Mookerjee challenged the Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah by breaking the permit system to fully integrate the State with Indian Union and break the monopoly of those leaders who were opposed to it.
Som Raj Khajuria incharge BJP district Udhampur, Neelam Nargotra, State secretary Mahila Morcha and other leaders paid tributes to Dr Mookerjee on the occasion.
Tributes were also paid to founder president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh Dr Mookerjee by MLA R S Pura Dr Gagan Bhagat at R S Pura today. A function was held in the town in which the local BJP leaders participated and recalled the sacrifices of this great leader.
