SRINAGAR, June 26: Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, today said that Government has failed on all fronts and it had no planning and strategy to deal with emergency situations coming out of floods and earthquakes.
Addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said that instead of relying on corrupt and incompetent officials, it is better to take services of international experts and organizations who can strategize and plan things in a proper manner so that it becomes easy to deal with emergency situations arising due to natural calamities and disasters.
Mirwaiz said people hoped that Government would learn from mistakes of September 2014 floods and would unveil some major policy to deal with such situations like constructing of bunds, repairing of damaged bridges, and providing relief and rehabilitation to the flood victims.
He, however, said that just one day’s rain exposed the Government as it could not deal with emergency arising due to flood like situation which emerged in South Kashmir causing huge damage to property and forcing people to leave their houses.
He said visibly it seems Government failed on all fronts and no comprehensive policy was at work to handle such critical situation.
