KATHUA, June 30: National Conference today assailed Bharatiya Janata Party for betraying the massive mandate given by the people in both parliamentary and the Assembly elections, saying growing public disenchantment is a reflection of dismal performance of the Coalition Government on all the fronts.
“The BJP exploited public sentiment, not only by whipping up passions on religion and region but also by making hollow promises about development”, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while winding up a day long delegate convention of the Kathua district here.
Senior party leaders, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, Rattan Lal Gupta, Th Kashmira Singh, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Babu Rampal, Sheikh Bashir and Dhian Chand also addressed the Convention.
Mr Rana said the hypocrisy and double standard of BJP got exposed the day it aligned with PDP, which it fought bitterly on every platform and in every state during electioneering. “A party which cannot be true to its word, cannot be sincere in its commitments as well”, he said adding that BJP and PDP have proven it beyond any doubt. He said both the coalition partners created fear psychosis among the people against each other and indulged in worse type of political opportunism by joining hands. While the BJP summed up PDP as anti-Jammu outfit, the PDP raised hue and cry in Kashmir by portraying the BJP communal, fascists and anti-Kashmiris. “The bonhomie before forming the Government reflected classic example of power politics”, he maintained.
The Provincial President said that the contradictions between the two coalition partners have accumulated more after forming the Government, as a result of which development has been pushed to backburner, welfare schemes almost abandoned and the utility services left unattended.
He lamented that the good work done by Omar Abdullah led Government during the past six years has been negated and the people left to fend for themselves. He cautioned the coalition Government to see writing on  wall and try to meet minimum expectations of people despite their self centric attitude and inherent contradictions.
Senior leader and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, while addressing the convention, referred to huge divergence between the coalition partners and said they rake up more controversies by indulging in real politick and attend less to the woes and problems of the people. As a consequence, the State is suffering hugely, he added.
Sr State Vice President and former Minister, Surjeet Singh Slathia took the PDP-BJP Government head on for miserably failing on all fronts. He made a particular mention of anti-youth job policy, saying if this is the approach of the coalition dispensation towards youth, what the people can expect on development and other fronts.
State Vice President Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, in his address, said the Coalition Government has lost its direction and its myopic vision has caused a development vacuum, which if not addressed timely will deteriorate the quality of life of people.
