JAMMU, June 30: An acting workshop entitled ‘Encounters with Actors’ began here today at Natrang Studio Theatre.
The workshop was inaugurated with the lighting of traditional ceremonial lamp by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur who was also joined by the workshop Director Vikram Sharma.
In his inaugural address, Balwant Thakur stressed on the need of promoting theatre education by way of promoting regular avenues of theatre knowledge exchange, interaction and training.
After the inaugural session, Vikram Sharma commenced his weeklong acting training ‘Encounters with Actors’ in the studio Theatre of Natrang. The workshop will cover all the practical aspects of actors training with special focus on the latest developed methods of actors’ preparedness.
The workshop is all about helping an individual to overcome his/ her limitations as an actor and using their life and life of others as a tool in creating the work that they wish to create and also giving different shades to their character work. Most of the actors attending the workshop are working actors of the repertory and are keen on taking their craft to the next level and that’s what workshop is all about.
Vikram Sharma himself is an accomplished working actor who got training from prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, New York. He has worked both on stage and on camera in India and USA and is well aware of the problems that an actor faces while creating his work.
The workshop is more of one on one encounter with these repertory actors and so is given the name ‘Encounters with Actors’. The actors in the workshop will be introduced to realistic acting system that was initiated by Constanin Stanislavsky and later improved upon by Lee Strasberg which popularly addressed as method acting.
