POONCH, June 30: With an aim to ensure proper check on availability of essentials and curb encroachments in the city bazaars,  District Development Commissioner Poonch, Nissar Ahmed Wani and Senior Superintendent of  Police, J S Johar today conducted extensive checking  of  various markets  of  Poonch city and booked erring traders and encroachers.
ADC Poonch,  Salim Malik, Tehsildar Haveli, DySP  Headquarters,  Assistant Commissioner Food Safety,  EO MC, Assistant Controller LMD, Food Safety officer and SHO,  also accompanied the DDC.
During this drive against unscrupulous traders and encroachers, the team checked various establishments and directed the shopkeepers to ensure quality edibles to the consumers. The team also directed to remove illegal encroachments from footpaths and side drains by traders besides realizing an amount of Rs 14,500 as fine from erring shopkeepers through the Municipal Council and Legal Metrology Department.
Mr Wani has constituted teams in all the Tehsils  for conducting regular market checking to keep curb on anti-consumer practices and to ensure that traders do not indulge in black marketing of essential items and there is no shortage of essentials.
The traders/ shopkeepers  of  Poonch city and all other major towns of the districts including Surankote, Mendhar and Mandi were issued warning not  to encroach upon foot paths and lanes and bazaars, otherwise their goods will be seized and heavy penalty would be imposed on them for default.
