NSF protests against coalition for discriminatory treatment to Jammu

JAMMU, July 4: National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged a demonstration against the PDP-BJP Coalition Government and Jammu University authorities for adopting discriminatory approach towards Jammu by enhancing the duration of B.Ed, M.Ed courses from one year to two year in University of Jammu.
Led by NSF general secretary Narinder Singh, scores of activists raised slogans against the Government and BJP and question the silence of the BJP, which is the main coalition partner in the ruling Mufti-led Government, over the issue.
Addressing a gathering here today, NSF general secretary Narinder Singh said that it was extremely shocking and equally ridiculous that the State Government has adopted different policies for educational institutions in the State. He ridiculed the decision of introducing two years B.Ed, M.Ed programme in Jammu University, while the Kashmir University is having unchanged one year programme of B.Ed and M.Ed courses. “How the two institutions headed by the same Chancellor of a State could have different policies regarding the same course” he questioned.
NSF general secretary further said that earlier it was said that the Kashmir based lawmakers were doing discrimination with the Jammuties but this time BJP who claimed to champion the cause of Jammu is sharing power and Dr. Nirmal Singh who has also served the heritage varsity as professor is now Deputy Chief Minister then why he is silent over such unparallel policies in the education institutions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Narinder Singh said that it was really injustice with the Jammu that Kashmir University (distance mode) which have about 3500 seats for the B.Ed course has fixed 45 percent marks as eligibility for the admission while the Jammu University (distance mode) which have around 500 seats for the same programme has fixed 50 percent marks as eligibility for the admission for the same course.
He also said that Kashmir University (distance mode) has about 1600 seats for the M.Ed course while the Jammu University (distance mode) has around 500 seats for the same programme for the admission for the same course.
“In Kashmir University both the M.Ed and B.Ed courses have one year  duration in both regular as well as distance mode of education then why the duration of the same courses is being raised only for Jammu University” he asked.
