JAMMU, July 6: Warning the BJP that people of Jammu region would take to extreme means after expiry of the deadline to get its demands fulfilled, chairman of the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) and president of JKHCBA, Jammu, Abhinav Sharma today asked the BJP to implement its written assurance on AIIMS latest by July 20.
“The people of Jammu region will punish the BJP in case it fails to fulfil its commitment that it would obtain the necessary orders from the Government of India for the setting up of AIIMS in Jammu by July 20,” he said while addressing civil society members at Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Jammu.
The meeting was chaired by the president of Brahmin Sabha and attended by many caste and community leaders, besides leaders of various business markets, intellectuals and opinion makers.
Abhinav Sharma said that the BJP would commit a serious mistake if it takes people of Jammu region for granted by not fulfilling its solemn commitment. He added that it would be in the interest of the party if it conciliated the alienated people of Jammu region by respecting its pledge. “The BJP made several promises to garner votes from Jammu region. Influenced by those promises, the people voted for the party en-block. But the BJP disappointed them by throwing into dustbin its vision document 2014 and entered into an alliance with a party that was known for its Kashmir-centric approach,” he alleged and accused the BJP of surrendering everything to the PDP.
Mr Sharma told the gathering that the movement in favour of AIIMS had been evoking tremendous response from across the region and that he was quite hopeful that the authorities would deliver the promise within the stipulated period to avoid the impending crisis.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Ved Prakash Sharma said that not only his organization but all the Jammu-based social organizations were fully behind the ACC, as the issue of AIIMS was very close to their heart.
Prominent among others, who also addressed on the occasion, included Deepak Aggarwal, Narain Singh, Prof Hari Om, Y V Sharma, Mangu Ram Sharma, Vinod Gupta, Peeran Ditta, Narayan Singh, Vijay Gupta, Rajiv Chuni and Dr C L Gupta.
