SAMBA, July 6: Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Kargil war at Ramgarh near International Border, the senior Congress leaders have strongly condemned the frequent violations of cease fire by the Pakistan, resulting into lot of sufferings to the residents near the border.
Addressing a public gathering, the senior Congress leaders and former Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and Manjit Singh at Village Sheikhpur-Plauta (Ramgarh) at the ‘Shardaanjali Samaroh’ of Shaheed Seopy Gurdeep Singh (Sena Medal/ Kargil war hero), strongly condemned Pakistan for frequent unprovoked ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir, which are highest in number during passed one year.
They came down heavily on Pakistan for again resorting to firing since yesterday, on the eve of proposed meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan in Russia and said that this shows the intensions of Pakistan and its Army towards the normalization of relations between two countries. The Congress leaders said that the Government of India must strongly convey to Pakistan that the ceasefire violations, sponsoring terrorism and talks can’t go together and the Pakistan Government must create conducive atmosphere for a meaningful dialogue with India.
Recalling the sacrifices of the Army personnel in Kargil war, the senior Congress leaders criticized the NDA Government at the Centre for non- implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, forcing the ex-servicemen to launch hunger strike and a countrywide stir on the issue. They said that the justified demand of around twenty one lakh (21 Lakh) ex-servicemen including over six lakh war widows, was accepted by the UPA Government on February, 26, 2014 and an amount of Rs 500 crores was also allocated to start with, for the implementation of scheme. However, the BJP which promised to fulfill the demand in one go with in 100 days of coming to power, is now dragging its feet after over one year in power.
They also lashed out at the Centre and State Governments for their failure to fulfill the commitment with border residents with regard to five marls plot in safer zones. They said the neglect of farmers in Jammu province who suffered extensive loss but were offered cheques of Rs 32, 47, 97, 112 etc, amounts to rubbing salt to their injuries.
Besides family members of martyr Seopy Gurdeep Singh, other prominent present on the occasion included Sukh Dev Singh Choudhary, Babal Gupta, S Paramjeet Singh Puma, Niki Mahajan, Col Charanjeet Singh, Capt Balwant Singh, Capt Baljeet Singh and Capt Harnam Singh.
