Samoon, Nazki for greater cooperation among cultural entities

SRINAGAR, July 11: In an initiative that would help identify and propagate the literary contribution of unsung doyens of Kashmiri literature, the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has decided to observe anniversaries of renowned personalities.
This was stated by Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Aziz Hajini on the eve of 11th death anniversary of noted poet, writer and academic late Fazil Kashmiri.
“The Academy has to play an important role in highlighting the contribution of various legendary but unsung poets and writers of the State who have remained off the event map for one reason or the other,” he stressed.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon was the chief guest on the occasion while as noted broadcaster Farooq Nazki presided over the function.
In his address Dr. Asgar Samoon laid stress on enlarging the canvas of cultural institutions and sought amalgamation of organizations like Archives, Museum and Cultural Academy for what he called “greater synergy in propagation of collective heritage of the State”.
Journalist and writer, Ghulam Nabi Khayal presented a paper on life and literary contribution of Fazil Kashmiri. Terming late Fazil Kashmiri’s poetry as classic form of folk poetry, he said through his work the late poet aesthetically gave voice to the feelings, hardships and aspirations of the ordinary people of our society.
In his speech broadcaster-poet, Farooq Nazki said that Fazil Kashmiri has left behind a rich treasure of Kashmiri literature which will continue to be the inspiration and guiding force for the young lovers of Kashmiri literature.
As part of the function annual “Fazil Kashmiri Awards” were also given away. This year’s awards were presented to Bashir Charagi and Rashid Kanispori for their contributions to the fields of poetry and literature.
Besides prominent litterateurs, Regional Director lCCR,Srinagar chapter, Dr. Ayaz Rasool Nazki, former Chief Engineer, Qazi Ghulam Rasool, former Director Doordarshan, Shabir Mujahid, Director Kishtwar Campus of Jammu University, Shohaab Inayat Malik, Prof. Abdul Jabbar, a galaxy of poets and writers attended the function.
