5251 cases settled across J&K

JAMMU, July 11: National Lok Adalat for electricity, water, telephone and other public utility service cases was today held at district and tehsil level across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the Lok Adalat held under the patronage of  Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge, High Court of J&K and Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, a total of 5251 cases regarding electricity, water, telephone and other public utility services were settled, while an amount of Rs 14565371.00 was also realized.
In the District Court Complex Kathua, National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Chairman District Legal Services Authority Kathua V C Koul (Principal District and Sessions Judge).
Two benches, one headed by District and Session Judge, Kathua  and assisted by Additional District and Session Judge, Kathua Sonia Gupta and Advocate Ganga Ram Sharma and another presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua Deepak Sethi and assisted by District Mobile Magistrate, Kathua Dinesh Gupta heard different cases.
The first bench took electricity, water tax and telephone cases and sanctioned award money to the tune of Rs 100000. The second bench settled 7 Minimum Labour Wages cases and recovered fine of Rs 8000.
In the Lok Adalat held in the District Court Complex Udhampur under the chairmanship of R K Watel, Principal District and Sessions Judge Udhampur, two benches were constituted to deal and settle the electricity cases.
The first bench comprised of Kalpana Revo, Additional District and Sessions Judge, B A Munshi, Special Mobile Magistrate and Geeta Kumar, Additional Munsiff Special Mobile Magistrate and second bench comprised of Kusum Lata Pandita, Sub-Judge (CJM) Udhampur, Arun Kumar Kotwal, District Mobile Magistrate (Traffic) Udhampur and Touseef Ahmed Magrey, Munsiff Judicial Magistrate First Class settled 582 cases.
An amount of Rs 93.99 lakh was recovered as revenue.
In District Court Complex, Rajouri, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Sanjay Gupta, Principal District and Sessions Judge. A total of 149 cases were decided and an amount of Rs 56,800 was settled.
National Lok Adalat was organized by the District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Rasheed Ali Dar, who is also Chairman, District Legal Services Authority at District Court Complex Sannat Ghar Bemina.
As many as 228 cases were taken up, out of which 160 cases were settled amicably and an amount of Rs 1,12,950 was recovered as fine in electricity matters and other petty criminal cases.
At Munsiff Court Complex, Shangus, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Shangus, Altaf Hussain Khan. As many as 34 cases of different natures were taken up out of which 20 cases were settled amicably on spot in presence of the concerned parties.
Lok Adalat was also held under the supervision of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Bandipora, Puneet Gupta in district Bandipora. As many as 336 cases related to electricity and public utility was taken up out of which 310 cases were settled amicably. An amount of Rs 7,43,552 was also awarded.
At District Court Complex Bandipora, the Lok Adalat was chaired by Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora, V S Manhas while as Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Sumbal, Fariqa Nazir chaired Lok Adalat at Court Complex Sumbal.
Special Mobile Magistrate, Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon and Munsiff Bandipora, Noor Mohammad Mir assisted in disposal of the cases.
In the Lok Adalat held in Kulgam district, a total of 265 cases were taken up and all of them were amicable settled.
The Lok Adalat was headed by Subhash C Gupta, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District and Sessions Judge) with the assistance of Munsiff JMIC Kulgam, Muzamil Ahmad Wani.
