Basic purpose of railway station nullified: Hotel Association

KATRA, July 11: In a meeting held under the chairmanship  of Shyam Lal Kesar, president, Hotel and Restaurant Association, Katra who said that the basic purpose of Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Katra Railway Station for which it was made and for which there was curiosity among the people, had been totally vanished and nullified by the Railways, here.
The meeting said that railway station, even after its operation of one year, merely one regular long distance train and one or two weekly trains had so far been started.
The president said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi when last year opened this railway station had announced there that six pairs of trains would chug on this route on day 1st  but due to cheap policies even instead of spending of thousands of crores of peoples hard earned tax money on Katra Railway Station and on this line not even a single train was extended even from Udhampur  wherefrom the distance is merely of 20 minutes nor from Jammu and even this had come to the public notice that empty trains for cleaning and washing were being sent  from Jammu to Katra after de-boarding pilgrims at Jammu due to heavy rush of trains in Jammu.
The meeting said that pilgrims were being forced to take taxis, buses, etc from Jammu to Katra and back to take the same  train which came empty upto Katra for washing and cleaning only, causing heavy loss to the Government exchequer  viz-a-viz inconvenience  to the Vaishnodevi pilgrims.
Among others who attended the meeting were  Harish Dubey, Varinder Kesar, R S Nag, Sudershan Sharma, Vivek Sharma, Suraj Sharma, Shyam Sharma, Karnail Singh and Karan Singh.
