Ganga asks I&FC deptt to channelize Basantar, Devak rivers

SAMBA,  July 11:  Minister for Commerce and Industries Chander Prakash Ganga today reviewed the flood control measures taken by the district administration Samba to protect human habitations in vulnerable areas along Basanter and Devak rivers.
Chairing a meeting attended by DDC Samba Sheetal Nanda, ADC Pawan Sharma, besides senior officials from Police, Revenue, Irrigation and Flood Control, PHE, PDD, R&B and other departments, the Minister took a detailed review of the    measures taken by Flood Control and other departments to check floods and to prevent the loss of life and property due to spilling over of water during the rainy season.
Minister gave directions to Executive Engineer Flood Control to expedite the work of making straight diversion channel in Devak river from Koulpur to Tarapur and in Basanter river in Kamore Forward area to divert maximum flow of water from habitations.
Minister also discussed the issue of power breakdown in Ramgarh due to damage to the   transformer at local receiving station. He passed directions to XEn PDD to expedite the work of replacement and repair of damaged transformers on priority, adding that wires and poles damaged in floods should also be replaced immediately.   He also called for keeping a close check on power theft and  asked the PDD authorities to conduct regular checking.
Minister gave directions to the DDC Samba to take up the matter of release of ration supply to the area immediately.
The Minister issued strict directions to the Police Department to take legal action against those who blocked National Highway, which hampered the smooth movement of Shri Amarnathji Yatra.  He said violation of law   will not be tolerated in any case.
Earlier, Chander Prakash Ganga launched  various  works of rural development including , construction of lanes and drains in Panchyat Meen Sarkar, Panchyat Meen Charkan and    Panchyat Smailpur of Block Bari Brahmna involving a cumulative cost of Rs about Rs 18 lakh.
He also laid the foundation stone of Community Sanitory Complex under Swach Bharat Abhiyaan in Panchyat Raya of block Vijaypur   estimated to cost Rs 2 lakh.
