Indian sports

Sir,
The London Olympic 2012 event is over. Indian contigent had a mixed fortuqne this time. This six medals which include two silver medals is the biggest medal haul that India ever had. A big success by Indian standards, but a low performance by international standards. It will however take us many more years before India will be reckoned as a sports superpower. To achieve the status is not going easy for India considering the competition level at International fora.
It will require framing a comprehensive sports policy for the country at the initial stage. Though sports are an integral part of school curriculum, much emphasis is not however laid on them. Sports in schools are not taken in a sports spirit but rather as a recreational activities just to bust the students’ classroom stress. This way sports do not receive the thrust they deserve.
To cultivate sports spirit among students they need to be provided training by expert coaches at centres where all sort of infrastructure  is required. The students who participate need to be compensated by way of providing incentives and relaxation is academic affairs. This will allow students to  take sports seriously.
Besides, the Sports Ministry should make Haryana a model for sports. Most of the players who bagged medals during Commonwealth Games 2010 and London Olympic Games mostly belong to Haryana. Thw winning formula adopted by Haryana is ‘Padak Lao Pad Pao’ under this policy people who bring Olympic or Asian laurels will get class II gazetted officer jobs. This policy ensures their financial security in the future when they are not in field. Moreover, it recently introduced an Act that makes it compulsory for school children to engage in at least one sport.
If such measures are taken sincerely, it will help sports sector a great deal.

Introduce sociology in colleges, 10+2 school
Sir,
Sociology is one subject in Arts stream which is becoming popular among class XI students. But this  subject is not taught in all Higher secondary schools across the State. In this way  most of the students can’t choose it as one of their subjects.
Besides, a good number of post-graduate students in the subject pass out from the two universities of the State-JU and KU, and some through Distance mode. But these  students fail to get jobs as lecturers in Higher Sec Schools and Colleges of the State. This is because the subject is not  taught at 10+2 level.
Therefore it is essential that the subject is introduced in all Higher Secondary Schools of the State. By doing so not only job opportunities will be created but also the aspiring students will get a subject of their choice.
