NEW DELHI:Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif as an example of his statesmanship, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said the Prime Minister had attempted to reach out to Islamabad.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Singh said, ”Our Prime Minister gave an example of statesmanship while meeting the Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif. He made an attempt to reach out.”
The statement by the Union Home Minister came a day after Pakistan Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said his country needs more evidence from India on the Mumbai terror attacks.
Taking a tough stand on frequent ceasefire violations along the Line of Control on India’s border with Pakistan, the Home Minister said it would not be tolerated any more.
Every time a ceasefire violation happens, we will give a befitting response to Pakistan, Mr Singh said. The comments by Mr Singh came a day after Mr Aziz said no dialogue will take place unless Kashmir is on agenda.
“No discussion will take place with India if Kashmir will not be discussed. We will stay firm on all our primary issue,” Mr Aziz said yesterday.
He also said Pakistan needs more evidence from India to expedite 2008 Mumbai attacks trial. On July 10, Mr Modi had met his Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of SCO Summit in Ufa, Russia. Addressing a joint press conference following the meeting, the Foreign Secretaries of both the countries had said that India and Pakistan were ready to discuss all outstanding issues.
They also said a meeting between National Security Advisors of both the countries would be held in New Delhi to discuss all issues connected to terrorism.
